Dr Monika Mitew-Czajewska was selected as member of the Executive Council of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association for the term 2022-2025.

Dr Mitew-Czajewska has worked in the Department of Geotechnics, Bridges and Underground Structures at the Institute of Roads and Bridges of the Faculty of Civil Engineering since 2000. Since 2014, she has served as the Head of the Sub-Committee of Underground Structures at the Polish Geotechnical Society and as Poland’s representative at the ITA AITES General Assembly, which takes place annually during the World Tunnel Congress.

The International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA AITES) is a UN-affiliated organisation founded in 1974 at the initiative of nineteen countries. Today, it has 78 member nations and 266 affiliate members (both corporate and individual) from all around the world. Its aim is to promote the use of tunnels and underground space in order to improve living conditions and to aid the global community in achieving sustainability goals through engaging the industry, sharing innovations and experience.

Poland has had its representatives in the ITA since 1978 through the Sub-Committee of Underground Structures at the Polish Geotechnical Society, which affiliates 65 members from academia, design offices and contactors nationally.

Membership in the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association is possible through declaring membership of the Sub-Committee of Underground Structures at the Polish Geotechnical Society.
